Travelling soon? Travel is meant to be fun and worry free. Given the risks of acquiring infections overseas it is advisable to see your GP preferably 4 weeks before you travel.
Your risks when travelling may be different if you have an underlying chronic disease, are an older traveller, child, pregnant or planning pregnancy. At Crown St Medical Centre, our Surry Hills Doctors provide individualised advice tailored to your healthcare needs.
For your convenience, Crown St Medical Centre keeps most common travel vaccinations onsite including yellow fever vaccines to reduce your risk of illness and provide peace of mind when travelling.
Although travel vaccines can prevent disease, depending on where you travel, you may still be at risk of non-vaccine preventable illnesses.
For example, the risk of Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Cholera and E.Coli can be minimised through vaccination, but contaminated food and water can still expose you to gastroenteritis from parasites and other bacteria.
If travelling to rural areas, some animals carry Rabies and Japanese encephalitis which are vaccine preventable illnesses, however there is no vaccine for Dengue fever, Zika virus and Chikungunya virus.
Crown St Medical Centre is a yellow fever accredited medical practice. If travelling to areas such as South America or certain part of Africa, a Yellow fever vaccination may be required. It is recommended that you obtain your Yellow fever vaccine as early as possible and preferably 10 days before travel.
