Allergy seasons is here! The local Surry Hills community is more prone to hay fever and allergy symptoms because of the high pollen count in the area.
Common allergens that can trigger allergic reactions in the Surry Hills area include pollen from grasses, trees, and weeds, as well as indoor allergens like dust mites and mould. Pollen allergies tend to be more prevalent during the spring and summer months when plants are in bloom, while indoor allergens can be a concern year-round.
Some things that you can do to minimise symptoms is to monitor local pollen counts and allergen levels, which can help you anticipate when your allergies may be worse. You can take steps to reduce your exposure to allergens, such as keeping windows closed during high pollen seasons, using air purifiers, and regularly cleaning your living space to minimize indoor allergens.
If you are experiencing allergy symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, blocked nose, runny or watery eyes, it’s a good idea to see one of our GPs to discuss your symptoms.
There are several treatments that can control allergy symptoms such as oral antihistamine tablets, antihistamine nasal sprays, saline rinses and steroid nasal sprays. Our Surry Hills Doctors are able to advise you on the best course of treatment.
For a more definitive cure, immunotherapy to reduce sensitisation to specific allergens may be appropriate.
